Social & Event Poster Design
Ongoing poster designs for a nonprofit closing the cybersecurity access gap
Overview
CyBlack is a nonprofit democratizing access to cybersecurity education — free bootcamps, scholarships, mentorship, and community workshops for people who’d otherwise be shut out by cost. I’ve handled their monthly poster design since 2021, covering everything from bootcamp announcements to milestone celebrations and partner-led workshops.
Scope: recurring monthly poster design across program launches, event promotion, and brand milestones.
The Challenge
- A nonprofit’s credibility depends on looking as polished as any funded tech company.
- Content changes constantly — bootcamps, partner workshops, anniversaries — but the brand had to stay instantly recognizable.
- Posters serve very different audiences: applicants, partner organizations (ISC2, universities), and the wider community.
The Approach
- Locked every poster to CyBlack’s core system: blue field, dot/ring brand motif, consistent logo lockup with partner logos when co-branded.
- Built a repeatable info hierarchy — headline, key bullets, date/deadline, contact/socials — so any poster is scannable in seconds.
- Used bold callout shapes (pill tags, deadline badges) to surface the one action that matters: apply, attend, confirm.
- Adjusted tone per audience, formal and partner-branded, for co-hosted programs (ISC2, University of Lancashire) and celebratory for milestones like #CyBlackAt4.
- Kept output on a monthly cadence, working from CyBlack’s ongoing program calendar rather than one-off briefs.
The Solution
- Program announcements — Bootcamp and workshop posters (Cybersecurity Bootcamp x ISC2, Hack-Comm Workshop) with clear application links and deadlines.
- Closed-event materials — Onboarding/session posters with speaker bios, date, time, and venue for registered participants.
- Co-branded partner posters — Layouts built to host multiple logos (ISC2, University of Lancashire, UKRI) without crowding the CyBlack identity.
- Milestone content — Anniversary and community celebration posters (#CyBlackAt4) for brand-building beyond program promotion.
The Outcome
Four-plus years of consistent, recognizable design that lets CyBlack show up credibly to funders, partners, and applicants alike — one monthly poster at a time.
